The Importance of Headwater Streams
Small but often overlooked, headwater streams are of great importance to the ecosystem and community in a number of ways. Possibly one of the most essential services of headwater streams is their ability to mitigate the effects of flooding. Additionally, these small waterways serve as refugia for vulnerable aquatic species and contribute to drinking water demands. It is imperative to protect headwater streams as our population continues to grow and development alters the landscape.
