Abstract

A demonstration model was designed and constructed to display how efficiently rotary power is transferred through V-belt and chain drive systems. The system developed allows students to experience first-hand how to build chain and belt drive systems, quantifies power transfer efficiencies for belt and chain drive systems, shows how gear ratios can be implemented, demonstrates system response when a load is applied, and serves as a portable model that can demonstrate these principles in the classroom and other venues.
